DESCRIPTION
A 26’ diameter hemisphere with 26,000 LEDs on its interior in a radial pattern. Speakers play classical music while patterns of light choreographed to the music dance in every direction a participant can look, completely surrounding him/her both audibly and visibly.
The hemisphere’s structure is that of a 2012 fire art piece called Char Wash. Re-purposing this helps keep the cost down. Rings of aluminum tube are attached to this, and 60 aluminum strips with LED strips are attached to the rings.
The LED strips are driven by 8 Raspberry Pi computers, which are controlled by an iPad running LED Lab. The animated patterns displayed features images from the cosmos, nature, and the great works of humankind. Many synthetic images are displayed as well.
The four speakers and LED electronics are concealed within built-in, wooden seating around the inside of the hemisphere. Above the top of the hemisphere is a rotating, brain-shaped “Mind Wash” sign, playfully evoking a 60s gas station.
