DESCRIPTION

Sceptre is a kinetic LED sculpture. Around a vertical shaft are 16 semicircular hoops of aluminum. Each of these has 102 full-color LEDs facing outward. When the shaft spins, a computer system keeps track of the angle of the shaft and changes the colors of the LEDs at just the right time to present a static image that appears to hover in mid-air (making use of the eye's persistence-of-vision characteristic).

Sceptre can be hand-held, or hung from the ceiling, or mounted on the top end of a wooden staff for regal affect.
